Mentorship Development

RockEDU Fellows Program

The RockEDU Fellows Program is a structured training initiative that supports scientists in developing mentorship, leadership, and management skills. Fellows apply these skills by collaboratively facilitating RockEDU research programs for high school and undergraduate students, fostering inclusive, hands-on learning environments.

Mentor Training Workshops

RockEDU offers mentor development workshops for scientists working with high school and undergraduate researchers in RockEDU programs. These sessions focus on practical strategies for supporting student learning, setting clear expectations, navigating power dynamics, and fostering inclusive lab cultures. Our workshops draw on evidence-based mentoring practices and emphasize reflection, communication, and accountability as core components of effective mentorship.

Peer Mentorship

Many RockEDU programs integrate structured peer mentorship, pairing students with near-peer mentors who can help bridge gaps in experience and confidence. These relationships provide additional support for participants while also offering early mentorship experience for undergraduate and graduate mentors. Peer mentorship strengthens the collaborative culture of RockEDU programs and helps build a layered mentorship ecosystem that supports learners at multiple stages of their scientific development.

BIOME (Building Inclusive Opportunities in Mentorship Education)

BIOME is a professional development learning community for scientists who want to strengthen their mentorship and teaching practices. Led by RockEDU’s dedicated community manager, BIOME creates space for mentors to exchange ideas, reflect on challenges, and develop practical strategies for building rigorous, inclusive, and supportive learning environments. Through shared discussion and resources, the community helps make the often hidden aspects of mentorship more visible and actionable.
